Food Policies and Procedures for The Maltby Food Bank

Effective March 4, 2020

The health and wellbeing of our clients and volunteers are very important to us. This is the season for the flu and colds, and we would like to inform you of our policy and procedures. We asked that you follow these procedures as an attempt to reducing illnesses and keeping you well.

  1. All clients and volunteers who have a fever, cough, sore throat or any symptom of not feeling well are asked to stay at home. We reserve the right to ask you to return home if we feel you are not well and will provide you with a selection of foods.
  2. If you feel the urge to sneeze or have an occasional need to cough, PLEASE cover your mouth, either with your sleeve or a kleenex (that gets discarded in the garbage can).
  3. Clients are required to use hand sanitizer upon entering the building and before you begin to shop. If you have an allergy to the sanitizer you will be asked to wear disposable gloves that we will provide. There will be hand sanitizer in various places in the food bank and we encourage you to use it. Remember to keep your hands away from your face.
  4. Volunteers will hand you fruits, vegetables and other perishable foods after you tell them what you want. You may not pick up items on the rack or at the tables such as canned goods and put them back. Decide by looking what you want and then choose that item and put it in your cart with foods on the rack. The volunteers will help you with the food at the tables. This will be hard to remember so our volunteers will be reminding you as you shop.

These policies may seem extreme to you, but again we want to prevent illnesses to all involved at the food bank and ask your help in doing so. We will continue these procedures until further notice.
