In the world we know today there are no guarantees, except that hunger never rests.
This year I found myself temporarily unemployed. During this “time off” I volunteered at the Maltby Food Bank during Thursday’s distribution hours. While my employment status did not cause me to become a client of the food bank, I met many people, who like myself, found themselves unemployed, some for the first time. These people were unable to make ends meet due to their circumstance and the economy.
Many were uncomfortable setting foot into the building. All were grateful once they entered through the doors for the Maltby Food Bank offerings. I repeatedly heard how warm and welcoming the food bank volunteers are; how the variety of food available for them to select from is outstanding; and, how thankful they were for the volunteers making the uncomfortable task of asking for help an easy non-invasive process.
The Maltby Food Bank has you to thank for enabling us to provide the resources needed to help the clients in the community when they need it. Your past donations are the reason we are able to maintain a high level of services.
We are in the planning stages for the 7th Annual Charity Auction and Dinner and hope to count on your generosity in helping the Maltby Food Bank help the families and elderly for the next year. The auction as you know it is changing. We are making it fresh and fun by changing the date from mid-October to March 24, 2012, holding it at the Woodinville Willows Lodge and securing the auctioneer services of April Brown’s Charity Auction World.
You are invited to attend an informal gathering of sponsors from past auctions to meet the auction committee and talk with the event auctioneer. We value your thoughts and ideas and would like to provide an opportunity for you to voice them.
Please join us for about two hours at the Maltby Café, Wednesday, November 9. The meeting will start at 5:30 pm. Beverages and light appetizers will be provided.
We are also in search of donations to auction off and sponsors for the event as well as volunteers to help with event planning which includes invitations, donation and sponsorship procurement, data entry, graphic design, marketing, and much more.
This is a rewarding opportunity to support the Maltby Food Bank and work together with your neighbors. If you can help out with any of the above, please contact Kristine Willson at kristiwillson@msn.com or at (206) 854-1182.
