Maltby Food Bank Receives Grant from Walmart Foundation
The Maltby Food Bank is excited to announce the receipt of a $30,000 grant from the Walmart Foundation. Through the Washington State Giving Program, the Walmart Foundation supports organizations with programs that align with their mission to create opportunities so people can live better.
In 2010 Walmart and its Foundation made a historic pledge of $2 billion through 2015 to fight hunger in the US. The grant to the Maltby Food Bank contributes to funding a 3,000-square-foot addition to the current building that will include storage space and increased freezer and refrigeration capacity.
Thank you Walmart!
We're Growing!
A Thursday morning at Maltby Food Bank is like a beehive! Our drivers have been collecting food from the stores all week, donations have come in from our community and we have purchased some things to supplement our stocks. Now it is time to get everything ready for the afternoon give out for our clients.
Our staff is busy unloading bakery items from boxes to shelves. The produce is being sorted and put into bins; rice, potatoes and other dry goods are being bagged and cooler items are being readied. Floors are being swept, garbage cans dumped and chairs being set up for the clients.
We do this and more every week in a very crowded food bank. Our storage is maxed out and we look forward to having more room. Our goal is to be better for our clients and our community. We are looking at the present and the future. Our client base is continually growing and we currently serve close to 150 families each week.
We are excited to announce that on October 12, 2011 we submitted our plans to the Snohomish County Department of Design and Development. We don't know when the permit will be ready but we are very hopeful for a spring 2012 construction start date. Stay tuned and watch us grow!
